NHS COVID Pass & NHS App Queries

Posted on February 23rd, 2022

We are often asked about the NHS app and the NHS COVID pass at the surgery so we have put together some frequently asked questions to help our patients. If you’d like to know more about our surgery’s online services, please visit our Online Services page by clicking here.

Children and the NHS app

Can children under 12 get a COVID pass?

At this time, children under the age of 12 cannot have an NHS COVID pass. It may be necessary for children under the age of 12 to have a negative COVID test but this depends on where you are travelling. Click on either of the links below for more information about travel requirements:

How do I sort out a NHS COVID pass for my child aged between 12 and 15?

Children can get an NHS login in order to generate a digital COVID Pass via the NHS App or nhs.uk without the need to contact their practice. You can access the pass via nhs.uk for those aged 12 and above OR the NHS App for those aged 13 and above.

Children cannot access the COVID pass through proxy access to a parent or caregivers’ NHS app.

In addition to providing access to the NHS COVID Pass, the NHS App will allow 13 to 15 year olds to access other non-personalised services such as Health A-Z, organ donation and 111 online.

To find out more, visit the NHS website or call 119.

Vaccines Received Overseas

I had my vaccine abroad and now it’s not showing on my NHS app?

If you live in England and have had one or more of your COVID-19 vaccinations administered overseas, you will need to have your vaccination details added to your NHS Record. Patients can use this service if they are aged 18 years old or over, have an NHS number and have had one or more of the following vaccines:

  • Oxford/AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria)
  • Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty)
  • Johnson & Johnson (Janssen)
  • Moderna (Spikevax)

To register your overseas vaccinations, you’ll need to book an appointment at a selected list of vaccination centres across England. These appointments are not managed by staff at your GP surgery and must by booked by yourself. You can book an appointment by clicking here. Details of your overseas vaccination will then be recorded in the National Immunisation Management System. More information can be found on the gov.uk website by clicking here.

If you’re registered with a GP in England and were vaccinated in Scotland, Wales or the Isle of Man, you do not need to book an appointment at a vaccination centre. Those registered with a GP in England who received Novavax, Valneva and Medicago vaccinations administered in the UK can also access an NHS COVID Pass.

If you need help using this service, contact the NHS COVID Pass service by telephoning 119 from the UK or +44 151 905 0119 from overseas (you’ll be charged according to your carrier’s rates)

Linking the NHS app

How do I link the NHS app to the surgery to view my COIVD pass?
