How to Cope with Hot Weather
Most of us welcome a bit of hot weather but it’s important to stay safe and healthy whilst we enjoy the sun.
Overheating, heatstroke and dehydration can be risks for for anyone but those especially affected can be babies and older people, those who live on their own or those with serious/long-term conditions.
To help with the heat, the NHS advises:
- looking out for those who may be more affected by the heat
- drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding excess alcohol
- keeping out of the sun between 11am and 3pm
- slowing down and avoiding heavy activity
- avoiding exercise during the hottest parts of the day
- cooling your skin down with cool (not cold) water
- dress appropriately for the weather
- wear suncream above SPF 15
- staying cool indoors
If you feel unwell with a high temperature during the hot weather, please call your GP, NHS 111 or 999 in an emergency.
