Travel Vaccinations

Non-urgent advice: Important Notice

SUSPENSION OF TRAVEL SERVICE EFFECTIVE MARCH 2024

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to temporarily suspend running our Travel clinics and advice service. It is important when travelling abroad that you have the appropriate travel advice, vaccinations and anti-malarial medication. Patients who plan to travel abroad are now recommended to book an appointment with a private travel clinic.

NB: There will be a charge for this and prices do vary.

Following your travel assessment we will continue to provide the following NHS travel vaccinations free of charge where there are available appointments.

The following vaccinations are free on the NHS :-
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Polio booster – protects 10 years
Hepatitis A – protects patients for 25 years (if 2 doses are given within 5 years)
Typhoid – protects for 3 years.
Cholera –protects for 2 years .

If you are planning a travel to a foreign country and think you will need specific vaccinations, we are able to offer travel advice appointments with our nursing team.

You can either speak to our reception team or complete a Travel Vaccinations Form which will let us know more information about your trip e.g. which countries and areas within countries that you plan to visit, the type of holiday etc. Once this is returned at the surgery, our team will then assess which vaccinations you will need before going on to make an appointment to discuss your travel arrangements and to administer your required vaccinations. Most vaccines only need 5-7 days for you to become effective, so please be patient and wait for us to contact you.

We can provide travel health advice and arrange for appropriate immunisations.

Travellers requiring special vaccines for yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis and rabies will need to visit a private clinic to have these vaccinations. Please know the ACWY meningitis and Hepatitis B vaccination can be given at the surgery but on a private basis involving a charge.

For more information on which vaccinations you may need for a specific country, please access the Travel Health Pro website by clicking here. You can also read about any current disease outbreaks and if they will affect your trip by clicking here.

We can give you a copy of your vaccination history/record to take with you.

Once an appointment is made if you do not attend (without cancelling) you will not be offered another appointment

Please be aware some travel destinations will require you to have had a COVID-19 vaccination and you may be asked to show your COVID passport on the NHS app when flying or travelling.

To book in for your first, second or booster dose of the COVID vaccination, you can visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ or call 119. For more information about the COVID passport or NHS app, you can visit the NHS website by clicking here.
