The NHS is introducing the Electronic Prescription Service. This is only for non dispensing patients at the practice. If you are a dispensing patient, please continue to order and collect as you usually do.
From 21st September patients have the opportunity to collect their prescription from a nominated pharmacy. (Please be aware that EPS is not mandatory). Ordering your repeat prescription items will possible using the following methods:-

telephone (answer phone out of hours)
Please note that the Cambridge and Peterborough CCG is in the process of requiring surgeries to have patients order their own prescription items rather than using Pharmacies to do this on their behalf.
From 21st September we are able to record your "nomination of pharmacy". For anyone who hasn't made a nomination , their prescription will be printed on paper until this nomination is made. You will see below a link to a nomination form, which you can complete (one for each member of the family) if you want us to do it.
When we go "live" the process works as follows:-
You order your prescription
The prescription request is processed in the usual way, we will require the same length of time to process your request (some items cannot be sent electronically like controlled drugs for instance).
The prescription is now called "a token" and is sent electronically to the doctor who checks and digitally signs the prescription/token.
This goes electronically to the "Spine" and the pharmacies will link to the Spine periodically through the day.
The pharmacy then dispenses the medication on the prescription/token.
Sometimes it can take a while for the pharmacy to "pull down" the prescription/token - once it has left the Surgery system the staff cannot do anything to make the prescription get to the pharmacy any quicker.
As with all change to established systems, there will be teething troubles. Some of these will include delays to obtain your items at the pharmacy. If you change your mind about where you want to collect your items and you have not changed your nomination - it will be with the pharmacy you nominated first.
One large piece of work we have done, is to contact all patients who set a nomination in a previous area, for example you may have lived in Lincolnshire where there was EPS and if you don't change your nomination and we don't change your nomination when we go live (we cant do it before!) then your items will go to your original pharmacy.
